Vehicle Ownership & Maintenance

Owning a vehicle in Japan has been an important part of our family's journey. Living in Ibaraki Prefecture, where public transportation is not always the most practical option for daily activities, having reliable vehicles has given us the freedom to commute to work, attend church services, travel with family, and explore the beauty of Japan at our own pace.

I have always been a Nissan enthusiast, even during my years in the Philippines. There is something about Nissan vehicles that has always appealed to me—their practicality, reliability, comfort, and value. When our family settled in Japan, I was grateful to purchase our first vehicles, a Nissan Serena and a Nissan Dayz. Later, we added a Nissan X-Trail to our family fleet. While none of these vehicles were purchased brand new, one of the things I appreciate about Japan is how well many owners maintain their cars. It is often possible to find quality used vehicles with low mileage, complete maintenance records, and excellent overall condition at very reasonable prices.

In this section, I share our ownership experiences, vehicle reviews, buying decisions, family road trips, operating costs, registration processes, insurance considerations, and what it is like to own and drive vehicles in Japan. Whether you're a fellow Nissan enthusiast, a foreign resident considering vehicle ownership in Japan, or simply interested in our family's automotive journey, I hope these experiences provide useful insights and practical information.
